Cheadle Annual General Meeting 2011 a Success!

Posted - Feb 2nd, 2011 - James Gosteli

The Cheadle Annual General Meeting for 2011 was a success. Several projects were discussed for the year along with the many accomplishments for 2010. Most of all the past year's goals were completed successfully and any pending items are due to be finished in the next few weeks.

Some of the new items for discussion were the upcoming Ice Rink project which will essentially upgrade the area to become a new year-round recreational facility. This involve a new building to keep people out of the elements, asphalt paving over the existing rink area, and possibly a small storage garage for a Zamboni unit. These upgrades will allow for a basketball and possibly a tennis court to be setup during the spring and summer months.

Another item is the beginning of a walking/bicycle path in Cheadle. This will begin with a new bridge near the location of the now removed Hendry Avenue access to Highway 24. A bridge will be put in place to cross the water stream and should allow quick access to cross Highway 24 near Malone Avenue.

Lighting upgrades to the community were also discussed. SEL is working with the community to improve the lighting at the Cheadle Hall, Park & Ice Rink, and street lights. The new lighting will be the state of the art in efficient light output. Completing this project will allow Cheadle to be showcased as the first green lighting community in Alberta.

Along with the above noted improvements, the Cheadle Hall will be getting new exterior doors installed. The existing doors are in much need of replacement, and currently lose a lot of valuable heat. Several doors definitely do not open and close as well as they should. This work should be completed once the average daily outdoor temperature is slightly above freezing.

Elections for the Cheadle Community Association committee members took place. James Gosteli was unanimously re-elected as President for another 2yr term. Barry Calhoun continues on his current term as Vice President. Bev Stevenson remains as Treasurer and Jacqueline Exell as committee secretary. Brenda Duffield joins the Board of Directors for the first time and Mike Satink tentatively joins on the board of directors for another term. Doug Hunter and Brad Waldron carry over into 2nd Year Director positions. Joanne Teunissen continues as Catering Coordinator & Hall Bookings, while Jim Jones holds his position as Community Reporter and Lion Club Liaison.

The notion of Camping at the Cheadle Hall during events was brought to attention again. People have brought several ideas to the table on ways to make it work. Most initial concerns regarding the camping were due to late night rowdy parties, garbage scattered outdoors, vandalism, and trespassing on nearby residential properties. A new vote on the issue of allowing camping at the Cheadle Hall, parking area will take place on March 1st, 2011 at 7:00pm. We welcome residents to come vote on this issue and to bring ideas on how they think this can work.

Thank-you to everyone who attending the AGM for 2011. Your input is what helps to shape and improve this community.
