Mailbox Relocation Completed
Posted - November 17th, 2010 - James Gosteli
The Cheadle Mailboxes have now been moved to the Cheadle Hall. Due to community growth the existing location was beginning to crowd and obscure houses in the vicinity. Due to highway construction, the Provincial Highway department planned to close off the access to Rural mailboxes at Site2. Therefore Site2 mailboxes were to be permanently moved to Cheadle. This sparked a major issue as this added an additional 5 mailboxes (50 slots) to the already crowded Site3 location in Cheadle. A rush meeting with community residents was ordered and a successful solution was found. Relocate the mailboxes to the community hall, just like other communities have done. A very suitable location was found along Malone Avenue (across from Cheadle Hall) with adequate lighting and sufficient room for vehicles. The new area was also not blocking anyone's house, which is exactly what residents wanted to avoid.
With excavations completed to extend the Cheadle Hall culvert and build up a solid road pad, a nice concrete pad was poured for the mailboxes to rest on. A special thank-you goes out to____ for donating the rebar for this project, and to Doug Hunter, Wayne Akister, Mike Satink and James Gosteli for donating their time to this project. James Gosteli will build a new Cheadle bulletin board in this location to provide additional lighting to the front of mailboxes, and items posted on the board. The lighting will likely be motion controlled and either grid tied or solar powered. In phase 2 of this project, trees and shrubs will be added for wind shelter along with a future sidewalk.
