Welcome to Cheadle
Established 1902
Cheadle is a small, pleasant community, located on Hwy #24 just 2kms South of Hwy #1, only a 15-minute drive East of the Calgary city limits. The many tall trees that fill and surround the community make it easy to distinguish amongst the prairie surroundings. Please view the many pages on this site to discover all that Cheadle has to offer.

Mail Boxes FaceliftApril 3rd, 2008
Talks are underway about having the unsightly, rusted, green mail boxes, in Cheadle, replaced with the Super-boxes seen in almost every other community (look at Langdon or Lyalta for examples). There is no reason why Cheadle should receive different treatment, compared to other communities. These nice new mail boxes have even been observed in areas with no houses or dwelling nearby. Since our mailboxes are located in the most populated part of our community, they are becoming quite the eye-sore, and pulling down property values. When winter temperatures drop below -20 Deg C, many residents have difficulty opening their mail box without the use of a pry-bar. A letter is being drafted by Barry Duffield, to present to Canada Post, on behalf of the Cheadle Community Association. Photo evidence of similar communities with new mail boxes will be included along with photos of our frightening boxes.
Despite this issue, there also exists the problem of expansion. While the new Super-boxes hold on average 15 delivery boxes in the smallest size unit, the current location cannot support the number of residents in Cheadle. Current the location is already wedged between 2 residential driveways and the edge of Railway Avenue cannot handle the current traffic volume. At to last Cheadle Hall meeting, it was proposed that we solve the problem, much like how other communities have. They have placed their mail box site in the same location as their community hall. This solution would tie in nicely with plans to landscape the area between Malone Avenue and the Cheadle Hall parking lot. This was planned in an effort to prevent vehicles from crushing the drainage culvert for the hall parking lot. Barry Duffield will be working with the various departments responsible, to find out what is involved with developing a site for the new mail boxes. James Gosteli will work on a concept drawing of the proposed area, including a concrete pad, trees and shrubbery. It is hoped that more information will become available by the next Cheadle meeting in May.

Reduce Speed on Cheadle's roads
There has been a large concern amongst residents living along Railway Avenue in regards to speeding vehicles. As many of Cheadle's residents are aware of the 30km/h speed limit along Railway Avenue, the biggest offenders appear to be workers and contractors from nearby housing developments. Children are at play only a mere 2 meters from the street, raising a large concern to parents. Please watch your speed when passing through Cheadle's streets and avenues. Parents are also asked to stress the importance of road safety to their children; whether they are riding bikes or on foot. The community association will be working with the County of Wheatland to add Cheadle to its "Road Calming" project.
House numbering
In an effort to organize the community, we are attempting to systemize the community's house numbers. Another reason behind this is for emergency situations. When an ambulance or some other type of emergency vehicle is called to Cheadle, they have no easy way of finding the correct house. This is because many houses are not marked and Cheadle's streets and house numbers are not in Telus and NAVTEQ's systems. A new map has been added to the 'MAPS' page. Please review the information and notify James Gosteli of any discrepancies. We will be working to have this information completed some time late this spring.
