Park Project Complete
The Park Project has been completed. Thank-you to all the volunteers who took time off from work and the rest of their weekend to help build this park. The weather was perfect and everything went extremely well. The rep from Blue-Imp said he was quite impressed with volunteers from our community. People knew exactly what needed to be done and dove right in to get the task completed. Our community has an excellent mix of skill sets to add to a project like this.
A big thank-you goes out to Mike and Charlotte Satink for coordinating and planning the entire Park Project. Another thank-you goes out to Joanne Teunissen and everyone else who helped with the food preperation. Hopefully we can soon have an online photo gallery of the entire construction process.
Call Mike at 403-901-0180 if you are able to help out on either of the days.
See you there!
In Memory of Fritz Gosteli
It is with sad regret that we announce the passing of Fritz Gosteli, who died recently on the evening of Tuesday, May 5th. Fritz is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Christine and two children Sonja and James. He was 72 years old and left us well before his time. He was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, 7 months ago, which was caused by Asbestos exposure some 40 years ago. Now he no longer has to suffer and may final come to peace.
Fritz was one of Cheadle's most long term residents. He and Christine first arrived in Cheadle in 1964 to build there home. Fritz has surely contributed much to the community over the many years and will be missed by many.
West Cheadle Street Lights
The new street lights requested for the SW end of Railway Avenue have been ordered by Wheatland County. The 3 lights will be of flat lens design which require less wattage and direct most of their light toward the road, rather than at surrounding houses. This is the same type of lighting which has been added to Cousins Street and Malone Avenue. The requested conversion of the existing street lights in West Cheadle to the new flat lens style, has been turned down. Due to budget restraints, it was decided that from a safety stand-point, the additional lighting would be a better option for the time being. The exact date of the lighting installation is unknown, but hopefully some time in the summer when the ground is thawed.
New Signs are Installed on Highway 1
The long wait for a sign pointing to Cheadle along the TransCanada highway has finally come to an end. James Gosteli has managed to make headway with the Alberta Government’s Provincial Highway Department. Two signs have been installed for East and Westbound traffic on Hwy #1 (before Hwy 24). Cheadle is often difficult to find for visitors coming from outside the community. The only remaining signs that point to Cheadle are located directly on Hwy 24. Seeing as most traffic comes from Hwy #1, it is understandable that people simply whip past the Hwy 24 turn-off without a second thought. These signs have come as a great relief to people who relied the large Chick-head landmark as an indicator to visitors (which is no long in place). Next time you are out and about check out the sparkling new signage on Highway 1, on the way to Cheadle.
House numbering
In an effort to organize the community, we are attempting to systemize the community's house numbers. Another reason behind this is for emergency situations. When an ambulance or some other type of emergency vehicle is called to Cheadle, they have no easy way of finding the correct house. This is because many houses are not marked and Cheadle's streets and house numbers are not in Telus and NAVTEQ's systems. A new map has been added to the 'MAPS' page. Please review the information and notify James Gosteli of any discrepancies. We will be working to have this information completed some time late this spring.
